How to Learn Fashion Design At Home

How to Learn Fashion Design At Home

Making your own clothing is a good hobby to have if you want to spend time and money on the process and learn fashion design on your own. Even though it's actually really hard to make clothes, today it is possible to learn fashion design online. Learn fashion design with online resources and make wearable clothe you dreamt about wearing.  Sure, you can start learning fashion design by buying pattern books and make your clothes after reading a bunch of tutorials. Join a pattern-making class and then you can design and make your own clothes. Once you master pattern making everything else is easy and will come much easier.

If you are interested in being able to make your own clothes, a more focused sewing online course might be the way to go. However, pattern making is indispensable if you want to make it right. So, the good idea here is to leave pattern making aside and from then on you'll be able to get the fundamentals of fashion design. There are a number of Youtube videos that teach fashion design and tutorials on the virtual platform Pinterest. The great news is that there are a bunch of free online open courses for learning fashion design. Maybe you won't get a degree, but it doesn't sound like that was the goal anyway.

So, where is exactly to start making fashion design practically? You can simply take some clothes that you like and fit you well and trace their shape on a large piece of paper. That way you will not have to make the pattern by yourself. Type on youtube search to learn fashion design better: make patterns from your clothes or maxi dress, for example.

Some designers would pick clothes from their own collections, providing the fashion design for their own gender. For example, many male designers make women's clothes and the other way around. Most fashion designers end up wearing a simple “uniform” to distance themselves from constant exposure to fashion.

Along with formal training in fashion design, fashion designers must have a strong capacity for creativity, including a knack for color, textile detail, and style. Drawing and computer drafting skills are necessary for fashion sketching. Knowledge of sewing and tailoring is required for explaining the design process to manufacturers.

A 3% growth in job opportunities was predicted for fashion designers by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for 2014-2024. According to the BLS, the median annual salary for these professionals in 2015 was $63,670.

After you spent enough time learning fashion design, then comes the challenge of making profits from your designs, which is the hardest. Consider putting your fashion design clothing in boutiques in your city. Schedule meetings with those business owners and show them your work. If your designs are good, somebody is going to want to sell it in their stores. Maybe, you can start an online boutique and build a brand through social networks or sell your clothes on Etsy.

Here’s the bottom line: fashion design is one of those things you learn by doing. You can start anywhere, but sooner or later you’ve got to get started and get some fabric to start draping. Or just start sewing, and see where it leads you. But one way or another, you’ve got to start making a really fun mess with fashion design projects.
