How to get started in design

 What's up everybody I'm Ji Brown and welcome back to the channel this is part one in a five part series about how to get started in design. I did a prologue the part zero and you can go watch that if you want to it's just an introduction to the series and also a little bit of backstory on how I got started and my personal story and journey into the field of design 

So what you need to learn on your path into the industry of design hope you guys enjoy it let's get started when it comes to learning there's five points that I really really want to talk about today and I hope that by the end of this article you'll really have a good understanding of what you should start actually learning and knowing and practicing

Today to put yourself on that road towards become a designer first thing that you need to learn when you are coming into being a designer is you need to learn the theory. 

 I'm talking don't start making stuff yet on the computer get a paper and a pencil get some books read some blogs watch some videos. Whatever you need to do to learn the theory of design if I was to show you a logo right now and you knew nothing about design you might say something like I really liked like how it looks it looks cool it makes me feel good and those are fine but when you start understanding the theory of design and therefore having a vocabulary of design you might look at that same logo lateron and say well I really love the contrasting color palette and I love the negative space and I love all the different aspects of design the line and the shape and the form and all of those things that are kind of like the theoryof design.  Those start those things might start making sense to you then so you need to learn that theory okay when I was in school for art and also in design school(or design classes online) we would do these design projects there was nothing but white paper and black paper and we would take one of the basic design principles like like negative space or line or any of those things and using black paper we would cut out shapes and different things and just glue them onto the white paper and in some way we had to represent those basic design principle. These are things that you know you have to do you have to learn and then actually put into play for you to make sense of a logo or a website because you can just look at a website and say hey that website looksfun that looks cool whoo I can't I design it it might be because you haven't taken the time to learn the theory and the design principles and the basic foundations that make that design look actually awesome behind that really great looking website or poster or business card
